leaving on a jet plane

I am not sure why, but every time we are about to leave on a trip the classic John Denver song made famous by Peter, Paul, & Mary constantly is in my thoughts… “all my bags are packed and I am ready to go”. The last 24 hours before a trip are always the hardest. So many things are going on within my head.

It is like a steady stream of thoughts, almost like a checklist, replaying itself over and over.

The bags are packed and weighed? – Yep, we did that Sunday

BTW - Janet won the official weigh in at 32 lbs. - While mine came in slightly over 35 lbs. 51 lbs. is the airline limit, so we have lots of margin for weight, but there is not a lot of free space in the bag. We have a plan for the way home to increase suitcase space. Stay tuned for that solution.

Cameras have been cleaned, batteries have been charged, extra lens inspected, and the most important thing… have you sync’d the clocks in the cameras to the time in Switzerland? Done - Syncing time sure makes sorting pictures from multiple sources so much easier!

And the list could go on, but they have all been checked off and now we just wait… until tomorrow.

Rich and Sally are already in Switzerland awaiting the rest of the gang… oh to be retired.

So, all there is to do is listen to voices deep in my head - did I pack the right stuff… will we miss the connection in London… sure hope I can sleep on the plane… and to steal a line from the King of Siam, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera…

Oops, I think I just proved that I am old enough to go on this cruise! If you got the reference of etcetera – you are old enough too! Young readers, just GTS etcetera, etcetera, etcetera… (for the old folks - G is for Google, T is That, and the S, is a four-letter word)

When we put our heads on the pillow tonight, I hope we will be thinking about the view from our balcony in Basel overlooking the Rhine Thursday night.

Or maybe the meal that awaits us at the Chef’s Table in the private dining room of AMAKRISTINA as we cruise along the Rhine looking at Medieval Castles.

I should check the weather for the week…

Oh no… I think I packed the wrong clothes!

Tom - turn off the light and go to bed!

Tomorrow will come soon enough!

Love You Janet... “all my bags are packed and I am ready to go”.

  1. I got the "King & I" reference! Does that mean I get to come on the trip too or that I just used to spend a lot of time at BB's house?

  2. I bet you could do the dance also!
I will have to say that BB's den probably gave you a leg up on classic movies. I cannot wait to watch the sound of music with Caleb.
